Etobicoke Gait Assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that analyzes how you walk and move to identify movement patterns, detect abnormalities, and optimize your mobility. Gait assessment is a systematic study of your walking pattern that examines the biomechanics of each step, providing valuable insights into your overall musculoskeletal health and function.
Our experienced physiotherapists in Etobicoke use advanced assessment techniques to evaluate your gait cycle, which consists of two main phases: the stance phase (when your foot is in contact with the ground) and the swing phase (when your foot moves through the air). This detailed analysis helps identify compensatory movement patterns that may be causing pain or putting you at risk for injury.
Gait assessment is used to evaluate and treat various conditions including neurological disorders (stroke, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis), musculoskeletal injuries (hip pain, knee problems, ankle instability), sports-related injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation, chronic pain conditions, balance disorders, and walking difficulties in older adults. It's also beneficial for athletes looking to optimize performance and prevent injuries.
Our registered physiotherapists in Etobicoke typically recommend an initial comprehensive gait assessment followed by progress evaluations every 4-6 weeks during treatment. For athletes or individuals with chronic conditions, periodic assessments every 3-6 months help monitor improvements and prevent regression. The frequency depends on your specific condition, treatment goals, and response to therapy.

The assessment typically lasts 45-60 minutes and begins with a thorough health history and discussion of your concerns. You'll be asked to walk at your natural pace while our physiotherapist observes your movement patterns from multiple angles. We may use video analysis to capture detailed footage for slow-motion review, allowing us to identify subtle abnormalities not visible to the naked eye.
During the session, we analyze various parameters including step length, stride width, cadence, foot strike patterns, joint angles, muscle activation timing, and overall body mechanics. Pressure mapping technology may be used to assess foot pressure distribution and weight-bearing patterns.
The practitioner will conduct a comprehensive health history, explaining how gait assessment works and what to expect during the evaluation. You should feel comfortable discussing your movement concerns, pain levels, and functional goals with our physiotherapist. We'll examine your footwear for wear patterns, assess your standing posture, and evaluate your balance and coordination.
The assessment includes observing your walking pattern from different angles, analyzing specific movement phases, and identifying any deviations from normal gait mechanics. Based on the findings, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan that may include corrective exercises, manual therapy, orthotics recommendations, or other interventions to improve your walking pattern and overall function.

Etobicoke Fascial Stretch Therapy is a gentle, assisted stretching method targeting the body’s fascial network - the connective tissue surrounding muscles, joints, and organs. Developed to improve flexibility, reduce pain, and enhance athletic performance, Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) uses mindful, rhythmic movements and traction to lengthen and release tension within the fascia.
Our certified therapists at Rapha Rehab in Etobicoke perform FST using specialized tables and ergonomically designed tools. This technique provides safe joint mobilization and traction while promoting fluid circulation, tissue hydration, and optimal neuromuscular function.
FST effectively addresses conditions such as chronic low back pain, neck stiffness, plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder, sciatica, fibromyalgia, repetitive strain injuries, postural imbalances, limited range of motion, athletic overuse injuries, and general muscular tension. It’s also beneficial for pre- and post-event athletes seeking enhanced performance and faster recovery.
Our therapists typically recommend an initial series of 6 - 8 sessions scheduled 1 - 2 times per week to achieve lasting fascial release. Maintenance sessions every 4 - 6 weeks help sustain flexibility gains and prevent recurrence of tension. Frequency may be adjusted based on your goals, activity level, and response to treatment.

An FST session lasts 45-60 minutes and begins with an assessment of your posture, movement patterns, and areas of restriction. You remain fully clothed in comfortable attire while our therapist guides your limbs through precise traction and stretch sequences on a specialized stretch table. Techniques include hip traction, spinal decompression, shoulder traction, and dynamic fascial mobilizations to release adhesions and restore tissue elasticity.
The therapist uses both hands and soft tools to apply gentle traction, oscillations, and fascia-specific stretches. You’ll be encouraged to breathe deeply and relax as tension releases. Sessions combine active participant engagement and passive stretching for maximal fascial lengthening without discomfort.
During your first visit, the therapist will take a detailed history of your pain, injuries, and activity goals. We’ll explain how FST works and what to expect during the session. A postural and movement screen identifies tight fascial lines and joint restrictions. You’ll then experience introductory traction and stretch techniques focused on your primary areas of concern.
Our therapist provides education on self-stretch strategies and fascial hydration tips to complement in-clinic sessions. You should feel supported and informed throughout your FST journey as we work together to restore your body’s natural flexibility and resilience.
Cupping Therapy Etobicoke is an ancient technique adapted for modern physiotherapy that uses suction cups to create negative pressure on the skin. This method promotes blood flow, relieves muscle tension, and encourages cellular repair by drawing toxins and stagnation to the surface.
Our certified therapists at Rapha Rehab apply silicone or glass cups to targeted areas, leaving circular marks that fade within days. We customize cup placement and suction intensity based on your condition and comfort level, integrating cupping with manual therapy and exercise prescription for optimal results.
Cupping is effective for relieving chronic muscle pain, myofascial tension, back pain, neck stiffness, fibromyalgia, shoulder pain, migraine headaches, sports injuries, and scar tissue adhesions. It also enhances recovery in athletes and alleviates symptoms of respiratory conditions like bronchitis and asthma.
For acute issues, our therapists recommend 1–2 sessions per week for 3–5 weeks. For chronic or maintenance care, monthly sessions help sustain tissue mobility and pain relief. Treatment frequency is tailored to your response and therapeutic goals.
A typical session lasts 30-45 minutes. After a brief assessment, the therapist applies oil or lotion to allow smooth cup movement or sets cups for static suction. You’ll experience a gentle pulling sensation as cups create suction over muscles and trigger points. Cups may be left in place or moved in gliding patterns to “massage” the tissue.
Your therapist monitors suction levels constantly to maintain comfort. After removing the cups, we follow with light massage and a guided stretching routine to maximize mobility gains.
During your initial visit, the therapist reviews your medical history and current concerns, explains how cupping works, and discusses any contraindications. You’ll feel brief suction as cups are applied, followed by relaxation. Post-session, you may see temporary circular marks and feel immediate relief in tension and stiffness. You’ll receive aftercare advice on hydration, gentle stretching, and skin care to support your healing.

Unlike acupuncture, dry needling targets the muscular system directly, eliciting local twitch responses to release tension and restore normal muscle function.
At Rapha Rehab, our clinicians integrate dry needling with manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and education to provide a comprehensive approach to pain management and functional restoration.
Dry needling is indicated for chronic and acute musculoskeletal pain conditions including myofascial pain syndrome, tension-type headaches, neck pain, back pain, shoulder impingement, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, sciatica, arthritis-related muscle tension, and sports-related muscle injuries.
Typically, our physiotherapists recommend 1-2 sessions per week over 4-6 weeks depending on the severity and chronicity of your condition. Maintenance sessions every 4-8 weeks may be advised for long-term management of chronic pain or athletic performance support.
Sessions last approximately 30-45 minutes. After a thorough assessment, the therapist palpates and identifies trigger points. Using single-use, sterile needles, they insert the needle into the muscle knot, often eliciting a local twitch response - a brief muscle contraction - signalling effective targeting. Needles remain in place for a few seconds to several minutes.
You may feel a dull ache or twitch during the process. After needle removal, gentle stretching and manual therapy are applied to enhance the release effect and restore optimal tissue function.
Your initial visit includes discussion of your pain history and physical examination to localize trigger points. The therapist explains the dry needling process, expected sensations, and safety protocols. You’ll be positioned comfortably, and the targeted muscles cleaned before needle insertion. Most patients experience immediate relief of tension and pain, followed by mild soreness that typically resolves within 24 - 48 hours. Your therapist will provide post-needling care instructions, including hydration and gentle movement strategies to support recovery.
Etobicoke Shiatsu Therapy is a Japanese bodywork technique that applies rhythmic pressure along the body’s energy meridians to promote balance, relaxation, and natural healing. Using thumbs, palms, elbows, and knees, our certified Shiatsu practitioners deliver targeted pressure and stretches to release tension, improve circulation, and restore vitality.
At Rapha Rehab in Etobicoke, we integrate Shiatsu with complementary physiotherapy techniques to address musculoskeletal issues, enhance stress resilience, and support overall wellness.
Shiatsu is effective for reducing stress and anxiety, alleviating chronic back and neck pain, relieving headaches and migraines, improving digestion, easing menstrual discomfort, supporting sleep quality, enhancing immune function, and complementing recovery from injuries and surgeries. It’s also beneficial for managing fibromyalgia, arthritis, and repetitive strain injuries.
For acute stress or pain relief, we recommend 1–2 sessions per week for 3–4 weeks. For ongoing wellness and maintenance, monthly Shiatsu sessions help sustain energy balance and prevent tension buildup. Frequency can be tailored based on your stress levels, lifestyle demands, and therapeutic goals.

A typical session lasts 60 minutes. You remain fully clothed and lie on a padded mat. The therapist begins with gentle warming techniques, then applies rhythmic pressure and soothing stretches along meridian lines. Techniques include palm press, thumb rotations, joint mobilizations, and assisted stretches tailored to your needs.
The therapist adjusts pressure intensity based on your comfort, inviting mindful breathing to enhance relaxation and energy flow. You’ll experience a deeply calming sensation as tension dissipates and balance is restored.
During your initial visit, the practitioner reviews your health history, stress levels, and specific concerns. We’ll explain the principles of Shiatsu, session structure, and what to expect. A brief postural and meridian assessment identifies areas of imbalance. You’ll then experience a personalized Shiatsu sequence focused on releasing tension and restoring energy flow.
After the session, you may feel deeply relaxed, with improved mobility and a sense of well-being. The therapist will provide self-care tips, gentle stretching suggestions, and lifestyle recommendations to maintain the benefits of Shiatsu between visits.
Etobicoke Deep Tissue Massage is a therapeutic bodywork technique that uses firm, sustained pressure and slow strokes to access deeper layers of muscle and fascia. Designed to relieve chronic muscle tension and release adhesions, deep tissue massage targets knots and tight areas to restore normal movement and alleviate pain.
Our skilled therapists at Rapha Rehab use a variety of techniques such as friction, stripping, and direct pressure to break down scar tissue, improve circulation, and promote long-term tissue health.
Deep tissue massage is effective for chronic back and neck pain, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, repetitive strain injuries (e.g., tennis elbow), postural imbalances, muscle spasms, arthritis-related stiffness, scar tissue from surgery or injury, and myofascial pain syndrome. It also aids recovery after intense workouts and athletic events.
For acute muscle tension and pain, our therapists recommend 1- 2 sessions per week over 4-6 weeks. For maintenance and injury prevention, monthly sessions help sustain optimal muscle health. Frequency can be adjusted based on your pain levels, activity demands, and therapeutic goals.

A typical session lasts 45-60 minutes. You lie comfortably on a massage table while the therapist applies firm, targeted pressure using fingers, thumbs, elbows, and forearms. Techniques include deep gliding strokes, cross-fiber friction, and focused ischemic compression on trigger points.
The therapist adjusts pressure intensity to your tolerance, ensuring effective tension release without undue discomfort. Periodic communication ensures your comfort throughout the session. We may integrate stretches and joint mobilizations to complement deep tissue work.
During your initial visit, the therapist reviews your medical history, pain patterns, and treatment goals. We’ll explain the deep tissue process, sensations you may experience (e.g., mild discomfort or muscle twitching), and aftercare recommendations. You’ll be positioned for optimal access to target areas, and light warming techniques may precede deep work.
Post-session, you may feel soreness that typically subsides within 24-48 hours. Our therapist will provide self-care advice, including gentle stretching, hydration, and heat or ice application to support recovery and maximize the benefits of deep tissue massage.
Etobicoke Neuro Fascial Therapy is an advanced manual technique that targets both the nervous system and fascial network - the connective tissue enveloping muscles and organs - to alleviate chronic pain, restore mobility, and improve neuromuscular function. By combining gentle fascial stretching, pressure, and neural tension mobilizations, our therapists release restrictions that impede nerve signaling and tissue health.
At Rapha Rehab in Etobicoke, Neuro Fascial Therapy integrates precise hands-on techniques and dynamic movement to normalize neural mobility, reduce protective muscle guarding, and enhance overall body function.
Neuro Fascial Therapy effectively addresses conditions such as chronic headache and migraine, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, nerve entrapment syndromes, fibromyalgia, chronic low back and neck pain, post-concussion syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, plantar fasciitis, and postural dysfunctions. It also supports recovery after surgery or nerve injuries.
We typically recommend an initial series of 6 - 8 sessions scheduled 1-2 times per week to achieve lasting neural and fascial release. Maintenance sessions every 4-6 weeks help sustain improvements in nerve glide and tissue mobility. Frequency is tailored to your specific condition, symptom severity, and response to therapy.

A typical session lasts 45–60 minutes. After a thorough assessment of nerve mobility and fascial restrictions, the therapist applies gentle traction and stretching along nerve pathways (e.g., sciatic nerve glides), combined with sustained fascial holds and oscillatory movements. Techniques include peripheral nerve flossing, neural slider and tensioner exercises, myofascial release, and dynamic movement integration to retrain neuromuscular patterns.
Throughout the session, you’ll be guided through specific movements to actively assist nerve mobilization and reinforce neural gains. The therapist adjusts intensity based on your comfort and symptom feedback to ensure safe, effective release.
During your initial visit, our therapist will review your medical and symptom history, perform a detailed neural tension and fascial mobility assessment, and explain the principles of Neuro Fascial Therapy. You’ll be shown specific neural movement tests and guided through initial gentle mobilizations. The session concludes with a personalized home exercise program to reinforce in-clinic work and promote continued neural health.
Our team provides clear education on posture, movement habits, and self-care strategies to support long-term neural and fascial function, ensuring you feel confident in your recovery journey.
Cranio Sacral Therapy Etobicoke is a gentle, hands-on technique that evaluates and enhances the craniosacral rhythm - the subtle pulsations of cerebrospinal fluid around the brain and spinal cord. By applying light touch to the skull, spine, and pelvis, our certified therapists release restrictions in the craniosacral system to alleviate pain, reduce tension, and support the body’s natural healing processes.
At Rapha Rehab in Etobicoke, Cranio Sacral Therapy (CST) is integrated with physiotherapy and manual therapy to address a variety of neurological, musculoskeletal, and stress-related conditions, promoting holistic wellness and improved function.
CST is effective for headache and migraine relief, chronic neck and back pain, concussion recovery, TMJ dysfunction, stress and anxiety, insomnia, fibromyalgia, post-traumatic stress, chronic fatigue, vertigo, sensory processing disorders, and pediatric conditions such as colic and developmental delays. It also complements rehabilitation after spinal surgery and trauma.
Our therapists generally recommend an initial series of 4-6 weekly sessions to restore craniosacral balance. Maintenance sessions every 4-8 weeks help sustain therapeutic gains and support ongoing health. Frequency may be adjusted based on your condition severity, treatment response, and wellness goals.

A typical CST session lasts 45-60 minutes. You lie fully clothed on a therapy table while the therapist uses gentle, sustained touch - often no more than the weight of a nickel - to evaluate craniosacral rhythm and identify restrictions. Techniques include light holds on the occiput, sacrum, and spine to encourage fluid movement and release fascial tension.
The therapist follows subtle body movements and fluid pulsations, applying minimal pressure to facilitate release. You may experience a deep sense of relaxation, warmth, or gentle shifting sensations as restrictions dissipate.
During your initial visit, the therapist reviews your health history, current symptoms, and treatment goals. We’ll explain the principles of CST and what to expect during the session. A brief structural assessment identifies areas of restriction. You’ll then receive a gentle CST sequence focused on restoring craniosacral rhythm and easing tension.
Post-session, you may feel deeply relaxed or lightly energized, with improvements in pain, stress, or sleep. Your therapist will provide self-care recommendations - such as hydration, gentle stretching, and mindfulness practices - to enhance the benefits of Cranio Sacral Therapy between visits.

Etobicoke Compression Stockings provide graduated compression to improve blood flow, reduce swelling, and support vascular health in the legs. Fitted by our certified therapists, medical-grade stockings apply the highest pressure at the ankle and gradually decrease up the calf, promoting optimal circulation and preventing fluid buildup.
Compression stockings are used to manage conditions such as chronic venous insufficiency, varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention, lymphedema, post-thrombotic syndrome, leg swelling from prolonged standing, orthostatic hypotension, and relief of heavy, tired legs. They also support recovery after vein surgery and help prevent ulcer formation.
Our therapists in Etobicoke recommend wearing compression stockings daily, especially during periods of prolonged standing or sitting. For best results, stockings should be put on first thing in the morning before swelling begins and worn throughout the day, removing them at night. Replacement is typically advised every 3-6 months to maintain proper compression and garment integrity.

A compression stocking fitting lasts approximately 30 minutes. During your appointment, the therapist measures your ankle, calf, and foot circumference to determine the correct stocking size and compression level. We educate you on proper donning and doffing techniques-often recommending donning aids for easier application. You’ll also receive guidance on garment care and laundering to ensure longevity and consistent therapeutic benefits.
On your first visit, our therapist reviews your medical history and vascular concerns. We’ll explain how graduated compression works and select the appropriate stocking class (15-20 mmHg, 20-30 mmHg, or higher) based on your condition. After precise measurements, you’ll try on a sample stocking to confirm fit and comfort. You’ll leave with your custom-fitted stockings and practical tips for wearing them correctly, ensuring you experience immediate relief and long-term vascular support.

Etobicoke Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) is an advanced electrotherapeutic technique designed to treat chronic muscle pain by applying precise electrical currents via fine needle electrodes directly into tight, shortened muscle bands. IMS combines the benefits of dry needling with low-frequency electrical stimulation to promote neuromuscular re-education, relieve pain, and restore normal muscle length and function.
At Rapha Rehab, our trained physiotherapists integrate IMS into comprehensive treatment plans that include manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and education for long-term pain relief and functional recovery.
IMS is particularly effective for chronic myofascial pain syndromes, sciatica, tension-type headaches, fibromyalgia, chronic neck and back pain, piriformis syndrome, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, patellofemoral pain, and pain resulting from nerve entrapments. It can also complement rehabilitation for post-surgical muscle dysfunction and chronic overuse injuries.
Our physiotherapists typically recommend IMS sessions 1-2 times per week over 4-8 weeks, depending on symptom severity and chronicity. Maintenance sessions every 4-6 weeks may be advised for individuals with persistent myofascial issues or for athletic performance support. Treatment frequency is tailored to your specific needs and response to therapy.

An IMS session lasts 30-45 minutes. After a comprehensive assessment, the therapist identifies hypertonic muscle bands and trigger points. Using sterile, single-use needle electrodes, they insert needles into the muscle, connecting them to a low-frequency electrical stimulator. You may experience a brief twitch sensation as the electrical current stimulates muscle relaxation and neuromuscular reset.
Following stimulation, gentle manual stretching and therapeutic exercises are performed to reinforce new muscle length and function. Your comfort is monitored throughout, and treatment intensity is adjusted as needed.
During your initial appointment, the therapist reviews your pain history and conducts a physical exam to locate tight muscle bands. We’ll explain the IMS procedure, expected sensations, and safety protocols. After electrode placement, you’ll feel a gentle pulsing as the stimulator activates the muscle. Post-treatment, you may experience mild soreness that typically resolves within 24 - 48 hours. You’ll receive aftercare guidance—such as icing techniques, gentle stretching, and activity modifications—to support lasting relief and functional improvement.
